Manaan's most remarkable feature
is the calm azure ocean that completely covers its surface. To accommodate
off-world visitors, the amphibious Selkath have constructed Ahto
City, a bustling spaceport floating on the endless ocean's waves.
Manaan is best known throughout the galaxy for its main export:
Kolto, a powerful healing agent harvested from the surface of Manaa's
giantic oceans. It is for this substance alone that such a tiny
world was turned export is so valuable it has made the tiny world
into into one of the most influential independent planets in the
whole galaxy. Highly prized even in times of peace, the value of
kolto increases accordingly during times of crisis or open warfare.
Many a battle has among other factors been decided by an army's
supply of kolto.

The Selkath are very much
aware of the importance of kolto to their world, and thus maintain
strict control over its harvesting and export. This has allowed
them to retain independent even during the current Republic-Sith
War, and has given rise to an attidtude of arrogance and superiority
among the Selkath. The government of Manaan is officialy neutral
in the ongong war that shakes the rest of the galaxy. As part of
this neutral stance, the Selkath have allowed both the Sith and
the Republic to establish embassies of their own in Ahto City. The
two rivals keep a close eye on each other, and the Selkath are carefully
trying to maintain an even balance in the amount of kolto exported
to each of the warring factions. The uneasy truce is maintained
only by Selkath law, which calls for harsh penalties against anyone
who breaks the peace - including sanctions on kolto exports. Many
feel that Manaan's gambling with the two super-powers is destined
to drown in blood. While the conflict between the Sith and the Republic
is about to reach its height, it is only a matter of time until
their hatred also erupts in Ahto City and sweeps it away in a tidal
wave of violence.
